Inaugural Day by XperDunn
Inaugural Day by XperDunn- piano musings and a short poem to mark the glorious day.
Download File
On a dazzling winter day we looked to each other with enormous smiles and wide eyes.We couldn't believe the warmth and the giddiness inside, not just ourselves, or our families, or even just the Democrats--
we were here to see it--
a roundhouse right to the lingering cold, dark corners of bigotted minds. And an irrefutable affirmation of our dedication to the idea of equality.
This moment is so rare because it is filled with pride--
pride in our nation and in ourselves for being citizens of this place.
We are tempted, as during the holidays,
to ask ourselves, 'Why can't it always be this way?'
And all of us good citizens answer
in like fashion to past generations,
"We'll get right on that!"

Run-Up to 'Dream' Day
These two latest recordings are my daily piano 'meditations' for Jan 17th and 19th. Today as I listen to them, on the inauguration of Pres. Obama, I can hear some of the excitement in my music that I have felt about our new president.
As a boy, I watched the police brutality and the savagery of bigots on the TV news on a regular basis. I have never understood that hatred and I've always resented the people that tried to make my skin color a badge of ignorance and shame.
This late election has redeemed us caucasians as much as it has relieved other ethnicities, maybe more so. No other single event could ever be as meaningful a signal to Americans that pluralism is real. Equality is still an issue, but the side of right has delivered a smashing blow to the willfully unjust, from which we can only HOPE that they never recover.
